Tate Modern


Saw this at the Tate Modern as part of a display.... not sure what to make of it.

Je pense que ce livre est ecrit par notre Ambassadeur a Oman (mais je ne suis pas totalement sur). Il est le fils de l'Emir.

The English translation is "The Emirates of the Gulf."

Well, it looks like one of those collages to represent life in the Gulf. Look at the image of the US soldiers in the background, the paper cut out of the desert high way, the brown and beige paper shapes surrounding the book. Hey, the Tate is all about modern art, after all.

I think those are boots..empty boots are a symbol of soldiers dead at war...the book on the gulf shows the towers, ironic positioning of a book that shows what kuwait is proud of, or what tourists look at next to images of soldiers and symbols of death..is that the highway of death too? Are the shoe boxes coffins? Is the word environment written on a shoe box? what's the other book? What do the words all over the place say? What is that white thing in the right and top? Who is the artist Zaydoun?
Hope you are soaking up lots of London...
