Playlist April 21-27
Two of my favorites make a welcome return this week...
- Coldplay - Speed of Sound: They're back... Rejoice!!
- Aimee Mann - Dear John: Great new track off her new "concept" album (whatever that means)
- The Modern - Suburban Culture: The unstoppable 80's musical revival continues.
- Toms - Sun: Just in time for the warm weather, a sunny piece of pop/rock.
- Blind Faith - Can't Find My Way Home: This week's classic pick features Steve Winwood on vocals and Eric Clapton on guitar, in the band they formed and broke up in less than 6 months!

That is why it was called Blind Faith :)

How bad does Coldplay want to be U2. Real bad. While people ask if they're going to pull a Kid A on their third album, the bigger question is will they pull an Achtung Baby? Not only did they play a gig on Red Rocks twenty years to the date that U2 famously did, but they're still stealing their style. They put out a false rumor that their album has been leaked to build up some hype. NME said some positive things about some seven songs. Until then, Coldplay may not want you to hear the tracks, but I got some news for you:
"Square One"
Based around a spiraling guitar riff and slight electronic drum beat that makes you think of Eno's "The Fly" production. The song builds into an anthmatic chorus that's all guitars and sound effects. This is actually the type of song coldplay does best. It sounds difficult and complex, but it's really just ripping off some other better bands like Radiohead or U2. I wouldn't be surprise for this to be the first single.
"Talk"
This is their version of "Mysterious Ways". It tries to be dancey and zany and pompus and catchy. It is. But in a very annoying way.
"X&Y"
This would be "Love Is Blindness". It's all droning organs, but like a good Coldplay song it ends with a big old sing-along style chorus.
"What If"
"The Scientist" Part II meets "Throw Your Arms Around The World". Hit snooze upon hearing it on the alarm clock radio. Sorry Coldplay Fans but I had to do this?

I just noticed the amateur agitator title you gave yourself. Who would be a professional agitator then :)?

Hey different strokes Purg... That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it ;)

Strokes...
1) I think Purg's agitator comment was addressed to me
2) I love both U2 and Coldplay. So there!
