RANDOM THOUGHTS, GOSSIP & GENERAL NONSENSE FROM KUWAIT

Outdoors

It's too nice to be at work today.. I wish I was outdoors at some cafe, or on a boat, or rollerblading at the great new path near the Scientific Center...

Oooffff!!!!

Meanwhile.. I was expecting a much bigger noise over Dr. Ahmad Al-Baghdadi's unjust verdict. What the hell is wrong with this country?

Wait.. don't answer that!

I was surprised there wasn't more fuss made about Dr. Baghdadi too. I figured people would express more solidarity. But at the same time, he was saying the other day that he didn't want too much fuss just yet because he still has the chance to appeal..

Bu jaij said it best.

Zaydoun....if only I wasnt in a prior engagement, I would be enjoying the beautiful outdoors too later tonight :/

Regarding Dr. AlBaghdadi, its really quiet from the liberals' side! Too quiet! Don't know if it was something agreed upon or just people succumbing to the pressure from the other side!

Regarding Baghdadi's articles..Just shows you how unpatriotic Liberals are...

To be fair, not all Liberals are like that...but most are.

By the way...Zaydoun..as a self-professed Liberal who supposidely supports America, how do you see the Conservatism of the US Administeration..you know their anti-gay, anti-abortion policy? How can you be a liberal who supports conservatives?

I always felt the word "Liberal" is used incorrectly here in Kuwait. I think all of us here can more accurately be called "Progressives".. I just use Liberal because thats the commonly used phrase, and it'll do for now.

As for the US, if you go back to my November archives you'll see that I actually endorsed Kerry for president. I like the US as a country (well, just the big cities), but I disagree with about 85% of this administration's policies, both foreign and domestic.

But to be honest, we have enough problems here in Kuwait, so I don't have time to worry about what conservative Republicans are doing in the USA. But the parallels between their actions and what the Islamists are doing here have not escaped me. In fact, I think the Islamists are taking lessons straight from the Republican strategists handbook! I can almost swear Karl Rove has an office here in Kaifan.. Tabtabai's remarks the other day were pure Rove!

If I was an American, I'd definitely be a Democrat... unless I was loaded and wanted a huge tax cut! ;-P

My comment is triggered by the mention of Nina Simone. Fun to find fellow fans among bloggers. Nina rocks, doesn't she?

As for the Baghdadi case, Kuwaitis' response to suppression has always been on the slow and weak side. Remember the case against Najma idris?

Are you kidding me? These are even slower than your snail in their reactions to these things, and more scared than the supposed ostrich who buries her head in the sand (I know she doesn?t but في الرمل تدفن راسها لي صار الخوف احساسها remains a strong image in my head)

The world, and not only this country, is rejecting anythinig that is truthful, challengfully academic, enhancig to people's minds, and eye opening. Look at Churchill at CU Boulder and you get the point. In order to survive as a person, you must go with the flow, otherwise youll end up like Dr. Al Baghdadi. What a sucky world.

its funny cuz...u think you dont' have to worry about things like this...and u know we're a democratic country and you can express your opinion supposedly....but the second u know your opinion bothers certain members...your basically screwed...its just sad..cuz i dont' see how kuwait will ever move forward and prosper if the people with the power wont' let voices be heard and have things done their way.....i guess in the end...power and money really talk....we should all go rob a bank.
